MotoGP Valencia: Rossi 'Shame' to see Bridgestone go
It's been somewhat overshadowed by the title decider between
Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, but this weekend's Valencia round
also marks Bridgestone final MotoGP race.
Bridgestone entered MotoGP in 2002, winning its first race with Makoto Tamada in 2004 and first title with Casey Stoner in 2007. Rossi left Michelin to run the Japanese rubber the following season, winning the title in both 2008 and 2009 - the first year of MotoGP's single tyre era.
With Bridgestone withdrawing, Michelin will return as the sport's new exclusive supplier from 2016. World championship leader Rossi said he will be sad to see Bridgestone go on both a technical and personal level.
“We are a little bit worried! First of all because we know very well Bridgestone and sincerely we don't know what happens next year,” Rossi said. “Can be better, can be worse.
“But was great to work with Bridgestone all these years. It is a great pleasure to ride these bikes with Bridgestone tyres, because the front is fantastic and you can bring the bike to the limit every corner.
“Also I have a special relationship with my [Bridgestone technician] that works with me and I'm very, very sad that I cannot work anymore with him in the future because we have a great relationship and the tyres are fantastic. So it is a shame.”
